last season, the hair at fashion week largely fell into two camps: wet-look, or beachy. at DKNY, we saw slick strands, saturated with water, while at marchesa soft waves ruled the runway. this season, it looks nobody could pick between the two: so they went with both.
at marc jacobs, models (including our girl kendall jenner) sauntered out, berets atop their heads, with tousled, slept-in waves. but these were no matte, salt-spray scrunched curls – they had a slight sheen, a kind of dampness to them, like the girls had just been caught in the rain. at creatures of the wind, loose, big kinks in the hair met with glossy roots and a rain-sprinkled feel. think fine, piecey bits of hair, slightly softened by misty rain, rather than the completely fresh-out-the-shower look we saw last season.
even at public school’s show, where the waves were more
regular, there was a kind of mussed-up texture to the roots and ends that gave
the look a little slickness. this kind of misty-rain effect is romantic, but
still fashion-forward – it has all the dreamy, nymph-like qualities of a girl
skipping through the rain, but the definition of having some curl adds a little
edge.
while the current inclement weather might give you more of
the wet part of this style than you’d like, we’d recommend working a little oil
between the palms of your hands, then smoothing it through the ends of your
hair, and then slicking the excess closer to your roots. brush through loose
waves and tousle with your fingertips. the new season starts now.
